This book, which is the second of its kind by the specialist physician of the Kandy General Hospital Dr. Rohan Amara Witharana , is an experimental research work that elaborates comparatively on the causative factors of diseases and the ways of treating them as highlighted in both Buddhist literature and Western Medical Science.
What the Buddha Discovered - What is true universe is, of course, true of the human being, Preset ‘biological constants’ are the ones safeguarding the ‘middle path’ in the human body, and we know them very intimately. For example, when at rest, our body, temperature should always be in the region of 37 degrees Celsius. If it were to deviate either way, below or higher from this normal, the ‘middle path,’ the human body cannot be in good health. It is the same with other preset constants such as breathing, blood pressure, heartbeat, and blood glucose. They could, of course, be breached – Which we often do – but not without adverse consequences. When the blood pressure is high or low, we feel ill, and we seek medical assistance to bring blood pressure back to normal, to accord with the ‘middle path.’
Our aim in publishing a "Mirror OF Dhamma" is to circulate amongst all interested, an authentic illustration of religious devotion as practised in Sri Lanka, Burma and Siam - lands where pure and practically unadulterated Buddhism of the Theravada or original Teaching yet regins.
