මේ කුඩා ග්‍රන්ථයේ විස්තර වන්නේ ජෝතීය මහ රහතන් වහන්සේ ගේ ශුද්ධ වූ චරිතකථාවයි. මුන් වහන්සේ ද අසු මහා ශ්‍රාවකයන් වහන්සේලා අතරට අයත් නොවූවද, ගෞතම බුදුසසුන තුළ ප්‍රකට එසේ ම ප්‍රමුඛ මහ රහතන් වහන්සේ තමකි. බොහෝ දතා අසා ඇත්තේ මුන් වහන්සේ පැවදි වීමට පෙර භාවිත කළ 'ජෝතිය සිටුතුමා යන නමයි. දානයක් පුදා පින් අනුමෝදන් කරබා විට ස්වාමින් වහන්සේලා ජෝතිය. ජ්වල, මෙණ්ඩක, පූර්වාක, ලෝකවලිය. ධනජය ආදී මහ සිටුවරුන් මෙන් මහත් වූ සැප සම්පත් ලබා......... යනාදී වශයෙන් දේශනා කරණු අපට අසන්නට ලැබේ.
මෙසේ ජෝතිය සිටු යන නම අසා ඇතත් එතුමා ගේ චරිත කථාව දන්නේ ඉතා සුළු පිරිසති. එය ඉතා පැහැදිලි සත්‍යයකි. ජෝතිය මහ රහතන් වහන්සේ ගිහි සමයේ මගධයේ අගනුවර වූ රජගහ නුවර වාසය කළ අමිතයභෝගී මහා සිටුවරුන් පස්දෙනා අතුරින් එක් අයෙකි. අවසානයේ කෝට් කෝට් ගගාතක අතිමහත් වූ ධනයත් තමා සතුව පැවති ඒ අසිරිමත් මහා ප්‍රාසාදයත් යන මේ සැම අලුකම ලූ කෙළ පිඬත් මෙන් ඉවත දමා බුදු සසුනේ පැවදි බව ලැබ කල් නොයවා සියලු කෙළෙසුන් නසා උතුම් වූ මහ රහත් භාවයට පත් ව භව ගමන අවසන් කළහ. සැබෑවිත් ම මුන් වහන්සේ ගේ චරිත කථාව ඉතා විසිතුරු ය. දානයේ ආනිශංස. පිනේ බලවත්කම මේ ශුද්ධ වූ චරිත කථාව ඇසුරින් මැතවත් දත හැක. මෙහි සඳහන් කර ඇති තොරතුරු හැරයනු විට මුන් වහන්සේ හේ පැවිදි ජිවිතයට අදාළ තොරතුරු පෙළ අටුවාහි දක්නට නැත.

ඉපදෙමින් මැරෙමින් සසර පුරා එක් රූපයකින් ඉපිද මැරී නැවත වෙනත් රූපයකින් නැවත ඉපදෙයි. මෙම සසර ගමන නවතාලීම සඳහා බුදුවරු ලොව පහළ වෙති. දෙව්ලොව හා බඹ ලොවට වඩා මනුලොව මිනිසාට පින් රැස්කර ගත හැකි අවස්ථා බහුලයි. ලොව පහළ වූ බුදුවරු සංඛ්‍යාව අප්‍රමාණය. එම බුදුරජාණන් වහන්සේලා හා ගෞතම බුදුරජාණන් වහන්සේගේ කල්පයේ හා පෝය දොළහ පිළිබඳව සවිස්තරව කරුණු ඇතුළත්ව ඉදිරිපත් කර ඇති ග්‍රන්ථයක් ලෙස 'අටවිසි බුදුරජාණන් වහන්සේලා සහ පෝය දොළහ' හැදින්විය හැකිය.
මෙම ධර්ම ග්‍රන්ථය සම්පාදනය කිරීමෙහි ලා කතුවරයා විසින් සද්ධර්මරත්නාකරය, පූජාවලිය, සද්ධර්ම රත්නාවලිය. සද්ධර්මාලංකාරය වැනි කෘතිවල කරුණු ගුරුකොට ගෙන ඇත.
