Dependent Origination - An Analysis of Mind
Dependent origination is the core teaching common to all sects of Buddhism. It describes how a being comes to be, persists and with the realization of Nirvana, ceases to be. Persistence or life – existence - is unsatisfactory – dukkha – since ageing, illnesses and death etc., take place during this life. In order to fully cease dukkha – the unsatisfactory existence - one needs to understand dependent origination which invariably leads them to the practice of the Noble Eightfold Path culminating in the cessation of unsatisfactory existence - dukkha. Nimal Fernando, the author of this treatise, has explained dependent origination as an analysis of mind so that those who are not so enamored with the traditional presentation may find it compelling.
