Great Female Disciples Of The Buddha
Females were no less capable than their male counterparts in spiritual attainments. In the spiritual firmament of 2600 years ago India, the world's first order of nuns was instituted. These nuns reached the acme of spiritual perfection and also gained higher powers and faculties. The first Buddhist nun was none other than the Buddha's foster mother, Maha Pajapati Gotami. Regarding her status and achievement, the Buddha boldly declared, "She is wise, of acute intelligence and understanding, compassionate and of great intuition."
